Is a neighbour allowed to share information about me on Hoplr?

On Hoplr, it is prohibited to share photos, personal contact details or private communications of others without explicit permission. Neighbours may only be mentioned by name in a positive context, with defamation and insults not tolerated. Furthermore, it is not permitted to share information from the Hoplr neighbourhood elsewhere, such as on social media. Be careful when posting lost items containing sensitive data.

Respect your neighbours' privacy: Sharing external information

It is not allowed to share information or property of someone else on Hoplr unless you have explicit permission from the person concerned.

Prohibited to share without permission

Without the other party's consent, you may not post the following on Hoplr:

  • Photos of people and possessions: Do not post photos of other people or their belongings.

Exception: This does not apply to lost items.*

  • Personal contact details: Do not share personal information such as a phone number, licence plate, address or email address.

  • Private communication: Do not share screenshots or (parts of) text from a private or group conversation (this applies to both Hoplr and other channels).

Note: Even when the information cannot be directly linked to the person concerned (for example, because the message is anonymised), we may still remove the message upon a report.

Mention your neighbours by name (respectfully)

We rely on the common sense of users to mention neighbours by name only in a positive, constructive context.

  • Welcome: Neighbours are welcome to 'put each other in the spotlight' and express praise or thanks.
  • Not tolerated: Defamation, insults or slander are of course not tolerated.

Read here how to report a message.

Protect the information within the neighbourhood

Besides the above rules about external privacy, it is also not permitted to share matters from the Hoplr neighbourhood (messages, screenshots, personal data, etc.) elsewhere (such as social media, other websites or forums).

Read more about this here.

*Additional point of attention: Be cautious in any case when posting lost items such as payment cards and mail, as these may contain sensitive financial or personal information.
