On Hoplr, each neighbour chooses their own language for communication, which enriches diversity. However, the choice of language can affect the response; less common languages or different writing systems may lead to fewer reactions. It is a personal choice to use a preferred language or a more commonly used language for broader interaction.
Language choice and Neighbourhood Diversity
The language used for communication on Hoplr is a free and personal choice of each neighbour. We respect the autonomy of our users and therefore do not influence the language choice of neighbours. A lively, mixed neighbourhood naturally brings together a rich variety of languages and perspectives on the platform, which we consider an enrichment.
Effect on Communication
However, please note that your choice of language can influence the level of response from the neighbourhood. When you communicate in a language understood by very few neighbours, or that uses a different writing system, the likelihood is that the response from the neighbourhood will be limited.
It is therefore a personal decision whether you use your preferred language, or choose a more common language (or official language) within the neighbourhood, or an international language such as English to guarantee a broader reach and more responses.
